MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Developers are about to break ground on another giant development planned for Memphis. The team working to transform the old Sears Crosstown building near downtown is planning a groundbreaking celebration next month. The massive 14-story building has been sitting vacant for more than 20 years. Soon it will be home to what developers describe as a new “urban village,” complete with housing, restaurant and retail businesses, health clinics, and even a charter high school. The Crosstown development team has secured $200 million in financing to renovate the 1.5 million square foot building. A groundbreaking celebration is planned for February 21, 2015.
