MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Shelby County Health Department said they have started to receive reports of people being sent to local hospitals due to the heat.
They have urged everyone in the Mid-South to learn the symptoms of heat exhaustion which are fatigue, weakness, fainting, nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, muscle cramps and irritability.
They also released the following tips to beat the heat:
- Never leave children or pets alone in vehicles. The temperature inside a car can reach dangerous levels in a matter of minutes.
- Slow down and take frequent water breaks event if you are not thirsty.
- Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, light-colored clothing.
- Check on family, friends and neighbors often especially if they do not have air conditioning, spend much of their time alone or who are more likely to be affected by the heat.
- Bring animals inside if possible. If not, check to make sure they are comfortable and have plenty of water and shade.
