MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Shelby County Health Department confirmed the West Nile virus has been detected in Shelby County.

Infected mosquitoes have been found in the 38018, 38116 and 38141 zip codes making them the first to appear this year.

The Shelby County Health Department has been proactive in fighting the virus.

Since April, the department’s Vector Control Program have been treating standing water with larvicides to control the adult mosquito population.

As an added precaution, the Health Department said they would begin sending out trucks to spray certain areas.

Spraying will begin at 8:15 p.m. and continue until 11:15 p.m.
