MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A family member of the father and four young children shot on Interstate 240 at Poplar on Tuesday spoke with WREG.

That family member wanted to stay anonymous, but described the injuries to some of the children, saying one of the little boys lost two fingers, and another child got shot twice in the stomach.

Police say the victims were a 2-year-old, two 3-year-old twins, an 8-year old and their father. One of the children was shot five times.

“It’s very heartbreaking and its very sad that we have so much senseless shootings out here and now it’s happening to kids,” the family member said.

Memphis Police say 18-year-old Lorenzo Watson and 21-year-old Kendrick Ray are responsible for the shooting. They were caught after a chase into Raleigh and are facing charges including attempted murder.

“It’s outrageous. We need to get this together,” the family member said.

After the shooting, the victims were driven to the hospital in critical condition. Police found their unoccupied car riddled with bullets around 5:15.

Watson and Ray were arrested after crashing, running a way and trying to get in a home.

They face many charges for previous cases and this one – including six counts of attempted first-degree murder.

Kendrick Ray’s attorney, Brandon Hall, said it was still early and he didn’t know much about the case yet.

This is the third shooting on I-240 this month. We asked Memphis Police if they will patrol the area more. They say at this time they cannot comment.
