HERNANDO, Miss. — The Hernando Police Department recently posted on Facebook, asking for tips about several break-ins in two subdivisions.
The post names the Edgewater and Forest Meadows subdivisions and claims the burglaries happened during the daytime between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
WREG spoke with Lindsey Piper, a resident of the latter, who said someone broke into her home Wednesday.
Piper said she arrived home from work with her young daughter to find her back door open, her bathroom light on, and her dresser drawers open. She then ran for her neighbor’s house.
She soon learned the crook(s) got away with an iPad, laptop, money, and jewelry. Some of the jewelry pieces were items passed down from generation to generation in her family.
“It’s just knowing someone’s been going through your drawers and touching your stuff and seeing where you live, seeing where your child’s sleeping and seeing your pictures on the wall. Just knowing someone’s been in your space,” Piper said.
She said police told her she wasn’t the first person to report a break-in that day. She found a crowbar on her property.
Piper said she’s willing to forgive whomever did this and is relieved no one was hurt.
Neighbors told us they’re taking a stand against the break-ins by keeping an eye out.
WREG ran into a security company installing a camera system at a home in the Edgewater subdivision.
“They want to protect their stuff,” Wes Luttrell with All Around Security said.
Stephanie Price with the Homeowners’ Association told WREG the Edgewater area is a very safe place to live. She said there are many people home during the day.
She asked people to remain vigilant and continue communicating with each other. She also asked people to call police if they notice anything suspicious.
Police’s Facebook post said the suspect likely walked the neighborhoods.
