(Hernando, MS) Several children in Hernando got to go on a shopping spree to pick out their own Christmas presents thanks to the ‘Shop with a Cop’ program.
Churches and schools told Hernando Police about 15 children who weren’t expecting anything under the tree.
The parents got a call within the last 24 hours to meet officers at a Walmart. The kids got $200 to spend on whatever they wanted.
Chaela Feske’s face stretched from ear to ear.
This year, she was told Christmas would be different. because she wasn’t going to get much.
Chaela’s mom had to quit her job to take care of her sick grandma. She died a couple months ago, making money tight.
“The police department is helping kids out like me that don’t have a lot of stuff for Christmas,” said Chaela.
But Thursday night, Chaela’s Christmas got a little brighter.
“I got a Ninja Turtle body pillow, a skateboard and a fishing pole,” said Chaela.
The 15 kids made their way through the isles.
“Thank you for calling my mom to let me do this!” said Austin.
His mom is a single mother of three. He chose a video game.
“I enjoy it! I mean, a lot of people can’t afford Christmas,” said one officer.
