MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman was arrested on an adult abuse charge, after police said she hit a disabled man where she worked.
Brenda Campbell, 43, paid her $5,000 bond.
A police affidavit said Campbell was a “home coordinator” at a home on Hallbrook in Frayser.
Staff at the home told WREG it’s run by Shelby Residential Vocational Services.
WREG was told the organization offers support for disabled people.
Neighbors said there were older and disabled people who stayed at the home.
The affidavit said a witness saw Campbell yell and cuss at a disabled man.
That witness said she watched as the woman hit him with her hand or fist at least twice.
That’s when she called police.
Officers said when they arrived, Campbell was trying to leave but they arrested her.
Edna Sanders, who lived across the street from the home, said she saw the police cars.
“I think it wasn’t a good thing for them to do, because they [disabled people staying there] are defenseless,” Sanders said.
WREG visited Campbell’s listed home address.
A man, who called himself her friend, did not want to comment about what she was accused of doing.
Neighbors on Hallbrook said they have heard cursing coming from the home before.
A spokesperson for SRVS said he could not comment on what happened because of the investigation.
He also refused to tell WREG what a home coordinator does.
