SOUTHAVEN, Miss. — In less than three months, Tanger Outlets in Southaven will open.

A job fair was held at the Landers Center to fill 1,500 positions.

Some homeowners said they’re concerned traffic will be a nightmare once the outlet mall opens in November.

The construction is almost complete at the site at Interstate 55 and Church Road where the new Tanger Outlets opens in November.

Homeowners in the area are concerned the new business could mean a bigger problem.

“It will be more about the traffic, I’m more concerned about getting in and getting out, getting home and getting to work,” Anthony Black said.

David Brannon lives in the Plum Point subdivision, too. He said he also fears getting in and out of his neighborhood may not be easy.

He said it’s difficult to know for sure how the new outlet mall will impact people in his neighborhood.

“With all the extra traffic coming in, we just don’t know, we just have to wait and see,” he said.

Lexi Harris, the general manager, said the business expects some traffic. Tanger plans to work with local police to make sure everything runs smoothly.

“We have great relationships with the police department and locally with us being so close to the Landers Center, they are specialized in big crowds so they get it and they understand it,” she stated.
