HORN LAKE, Miss. — Some people living in Horn Lake were not happy about their bills.

They were so upset they were claiming water fraud.

They claimed their water bills were double, some even triple what they should be and they wanted answers.

“It just confuses me,” said Laura Causgrove.

Causgrove said she had no idea why her water bill doubled last month from $40 to $81.

She said the increase put a financial strain on her family.

“I mean we’re on a fixed income for the most part, I mean we have one income,” she explained.

Causgrove said nothing in her family’s lifestyle changed.

They never watered the lawn and weren’t home much last month, so she’s convinced the problem wasn’t on her end.

Causgrove said she wasn’t the only one with the dilemma.

A Facebook group was created with others claiming the same problem.

One woman even showed her bill tripling over two months.

One theory, the city didn’t read the meters every month.

WREG went to the city.

Mayor Allen Latimer said he wasn’t familiar with the case but said his office would look into the concerns.

“We’re going to check the figures and if necessary check their meters to make sure all the information we have for which we based their bills is correct,” he explained.

Latimer said if the city did not have the proper reading of the meters, the bills would be adjusted.
