He saw when you were sleeping and knew when you were awake, but it’s possible Santa completely blew it.
If you are thinking about a return or passing that gift along to someone else later, here are a few things to consider.
First, no matter what you think, say thank you. The Emily Post Institute on etiquette says to be pleasant.
While they’re not fond of “regifting,” if you must, make sure it isn’t something that took time to make by hand or to personalize.
Don’t hurt anyone’s feelings — including the new recipient — who could find out you didn’t really shop for him or for her — but especially, the giver. That goes for returns too.
For retail returns, read the fine print on a gift receipt. CNN Money says to know the return window — it may be 14 days; it may be 30; it may have no limit.
Original packaging should stay as intact as possible, especially electronics.
And note that many retailers will require a photo ID to protect against return fraud.
And maybe don’t rush out there right away. December 26th has become the second busiest shopping day of the entire year for foot traffic — with those new gift cards to burn.
