MEMPHIS, Tenn. — 50 years ago, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his last public speech.

He gave his ‘Mountaintop Speech’ at Mason Temple in Downtown Memphis.

In that speech, Dr. King talked about non-violent protests and called for unity, economic actions and boycotts.

He spoke for more than 40 minutes about the injustice felt by sanitation workers in Memphis

At the time they were protesting low pay and poor working conditions.

The program started with a song, followed by video remarks from former President’s Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.

Andrew Young, Martin Luther King III and Dr. Bernice King talked about Dr. Martin Luther King’s Jr.’s dream.

Lee Sanders ignited the crowd by saying this week was more than a commemoration, it’s a call to action to reach the promise land.

“We must organize a call to action,” he said.
