Mississippi state troopers said they worked more than 30 accidents Friday because of icy roads.
That’s not even counting the cars troopers pulled out of ditches.
WREG crews drove down HIghway 72 and slid on some ice patches, especially on bridges and overpasses.
Other drivers experienced the same thing.
“Icy, sleet, snow. Everything,” Jessica Davis said.
She wishes she didn’t have to drive from Memphis to Corinth Friday. The icy roads had her on edge, so she took it slow.
“Actually, my brother had a wreck yesterday. He slid in a ditch, so it’s real icy,” Davis said.
WREG followed her advice and took it slow, too.
We gripped the wheel a little tighter as we drove down Highway 72, seeing car after car in ditches.
The culprit: overpasses and bridges.
“You need to take your time and not go too fast, because you can slide of the road and get hurt,” one driver said.
Mississippi state troopers said they were swamped Friday because of weather. They pulled cars from ditches and worked back-to-back accidents.
The same holds true in DeSoto County. Deputies said bridges were covered in ice, and were concerned more and more people would get into wrecks.
All the way back to the WREG station, we saw cars on tow trucks and roads blocked off. It’s safe to say it was a mess.
“Driving real slow. You have to drive slow,” Davis said.
