MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An organization says more working people than ever want to join its “save up” program to learn how save money and fundraise for important life purchases.

RISE is a nonprofit organization that teaches people financial literacy to make them self-sufficient.

RISE said the demand for the program is so large that it is hard to keep up with fundraising for it.

WREG spoke with a woman that  completed the program three years ago.

With RISE’s help, Cordova resident Sheena Harper bought her own home and is saving money for her son’s college tuition.

“It was just like if I had money, I thought you were just supposed to spend it,” Harper said.

The program serves people with certain financial needs.

Participants must be employed and complete a financial planning course.

They must also open a savings account and contribute a certain amount to it monthly.

After several months, RISE matches every dollar saved with two dollars.

RISE is trying to secure additional funding to keep up with demand.
