Jerry “The King” Lawler Wrestles Again After Health Scare

(Memphis) It’s back to business for wrestling legend Jerry “The King” Lawler.

He’s stepping back into the ring one year after a heart attack that nearly took his life.

It is his first major one-on-one match since having a heart attack during a “Monday Night Raw” event in Canada last year.

He says his opponent dropped elbow after elbow onto his chest. Lawler says that may have led to the heart trouble.

“I remember at the time thinking, ‘Whatever happened to the day when you used to try to do this without killing each other?'” Lawler said.

A year later, Lawler says he is as healthy as ever. The heart attack scare is only a memory.

“Literally, from that day until today, I have not felt one ill effect. I have not felt bad. It is almost in my mind, it didn’t happen,” Lawyer said.

Lawler is returning to what made him a star. He’s back in the spotlight without giving it a second thought.

“I’ve been doing this for 43 years. I’m long past the nervous stage,” he said.

But what about superstitions? The man who admits to avoiding black cats and walking under ladders says he isn’t worried about wrestling on Friday the 13th.

“When I had my heart attack on the 10th, I think I actually woke up and came back on the 13th, so probably that’s a good day for me now,” Lawler said.
