Judge recuses himself over possible conflict of interest in Darrius Stewart case

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Chancery Court judge has recused himself from deciding whether to unseal the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation records in the Darrius Stewart case.

Walter Evans recused himself on Wednesday to avoid a possible conflict of interest.

The case was reassigned to Chancellor James Newsom, who was just appointed in September.

TBI investigative files are always sealed by state law.
