MEMPHIS, Tenn. — It took jurors less than 20 minutes to find Javonte Thomas guilty of first-degree murder on Thursday.
He was automatically sentenced to life in prison.
According to reports, Thomas shot 22-year-old Quintin Fifer 12 times at close range in February 2014 in the parking lot of the Deluxe Inn on Lamar.
Fifer had just pulled into the parking lot with her fiance, his 2-year-old child and his brother when Thomas got out of his car and opened fire.
No one else was hurt during the incident.
Thomas admitted to shooting Fifer but told the judge it was in retaliation for the victim allegedly shooting his brother four months earlier.
