MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An identity thief is off the streets thanks to detectives with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

Willie Lee Walton was arrested and charged with theft of property $1,000 to $10,000 and identity theft after police say he used a woman’s personal information to fund his gambling addiction.

On August 21, the victim notified Deputies when she was notified a Barclay Mastercard had been opened in her name. She then discovered that someone had tried to open a second card through Discover, but that one was denied.

The Barclay Mastercard had a balance of over $1,000, and the suspect had even used her private work email on the card.

Deputies soon discovered the IP address used to apply for the card came from within Shelby County Juvenile Court.

It wasn’t too long after that investigators identified Walton as their main suspect.

Further video evidence at a local Regions Bank showed Walton using the card to withdraw money from the ATM.

The 51-year-old was relieved of duty without pay.
