MEMPHIS, Tenn. — “I thought he was going to kill me,” a knife attack victim told WREG.

The man involved in the attack said he was still scared he would be killed and asked WREG not to use his name or show his face.

“That night I happened to go over there and see what’s going on,” the man said.

Police said the victim went to the Hickory Hills Apartment in Whitehaven to check on his brother. However, the man ended up getting into an argument with Derrick Sayles.

“As I was going out the door (he) basically he punched me,” the victim said.

The man said he punched Sayles back. Moments later, officers accused Sayles of whipping out two butcher knives.

“He chased me around for about 30 to 45 minutes,” the victim said.

According to the affidavit of complaint, the knives were six to seven inches long.

“I was trying to call the police, but I couldn’t get through,” the man recalled.

The victim said he did the first thing that came to mind when he saw the knives.

“Run. That’s the only thing I could do. I didn’t have no weapon. I just ran,” he said.

The victim finally called police when he got away and is thankful he was not hurt.

The attack happened in December, but Sayles was just locked up on Tuesday night.

“I just need justice. That’s the only thing I want is justice,” the victim told WREG.

Sayles is being held on $10,000 bond and is expected in court February, 11.
