GERMANTOWN, Tenn. — The City of Germantown has released more information on how utility customers can have their late utility fees waived.
In March, lawmakers approved an ordinance that allows those customers who have paid their water bills on time for the past 12 months to have the fee waived if they get behind.
The waiver will only be applied to one delayed payment.
Public Works Director Bo Mills said the new rule allows flexibility for customers.
“We have many great customers who consistently pay on time each month, then one month the bill gets lost in the stack of junk mail or they are out of town when the payment is due and they get stuck with a late fee,” he said.
In order to take advantage of the ordinance, Germantown residents must send a written request for the fee to be waived.
Those requests can be sent in with the water payment or emailed to Utilities@Germantown-TN.gov.
