SOUTHAVEN, Miss. — Local pastors and law enforcement officials met Monday to discuss how they could work together to prevent crime and keep kids in school.
Ministers and pastors sat shoulder to shoulder with police, deputies and the people they trust to keep them safe.
They broke bread over the issues that could potentially break their communities.
Though this group gathered in Southaven, the focus was on Shelby County and how they could make a difference there.
And, after the two recent high-profile killings of Officer Sean Bolton and another by a police officer, county Mayor Mark Luttrell said it’s time to have these conversations.
“Events like this are vitally important to — number one — try to collectively fight crime, but also to build that alliance and that bond between the community and police so that we have confidence in each other,” he said.
When asked why they met in Southaven, WREG was told it was because Brown Baptist Church has continued to show support to working with police and its members from Memphis in making a difference.
