MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Little Lyric Everhart has a new heart, and it’s thanks to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital!
Lyric is only 20 months old and was diagnosed in September with acute heart failure.
It meant the Memphis baby needed a donor heart, and thankfully Le Bonheur found a match.
The team that performed Lyric’s transplant Saturday was lead by Dr. Umar Boston, Dr. Chris Knott-Crag and Dr. Jeffrey Towbin.
Le Bonheur is a leader in the field for heart health. The Society of Thoracic Surgeons gave its Heart Institute a three-star ranking in 2015, an honor only nine other centers in the country share.
Boston said they hope to eventually be able to perform 10 to 12 transplants each year.
“The families we care for are the real winners here,” Le Bonheur president and CEO Meri Armour said. “We are thankful for families, like this donor heart family, who are willing to give such precious gifts to children.”
