Leaders travel to Memphis for Latino Memphis Leadership Conference

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Leaders from across the Mid-South sat shoulder to shoulder at the Latino Memphis Leadership Luncheon on Wednesday.

Businesses and organizations, big and small, broke bread as they worked to find ways to fix problems that could potentially break the Hispanic community.

“Many Latinos are still in poverty,” Mauricia Calvo. “So what are some of the things that we as an organization, and really as a community, can do to pull everybody up? Not only for the benefit of Latinos but for the benefit of the entire community.”

Hispanic leaders said they also needed help improving education, safety and housing.

The good news, organizers said, was the Latino community has been growing fast in the Mid-South and has found bright leaders to move the next generation forward.

Organizers hoped the conference and having conversations centered around the Latino community will help empower the future of Memphis.
