LEE COUNTY, Ark. —  The man involved in a six-hour stand-off with authorities late Thursday evening has been identified.

William Everett Boals of Mariana was taken into custody around midnight and charged with two counts  of criminal attempt to commit capital murder and three counts of aggravated assault.

Authorities were called to his home in the 2900 block of Lee County Road earlier that afternoon after they received a call from a representative from the county water association.

He said the 73-year-old chased him off the property as the rep was trying to turn off his water.

When Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on the scene, Boals reportedly opened fire and then barricaded himself inside the home.

It’s unclear how law enforcement were able to persuade the elderly man to surrender.

WREG’s Wayne Carter was on the scene Thursday night and reported a massive police response to the incident.

Arkansas State Police, the bomb squad, tactical units and officers in bullet proof vests were all there.
