MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Hall of Fame songwriter from Memphis was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

David Porter received the award from the University of Memphis Black Student Association Monday night.

Porter graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and later attended Lemoyne Owen College.

He produced many R&B hits in the 1960’s and 1970’s such as “Can’t See You When I Want Too,” and “Isn’t That Loving You” at Stax Studios.

Porter was a 2005 Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee with catalog sales exceeding 300 million units.
