MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Shelby County has some of the highest obesity and infant mortality numbers in the country.

The Life Church is hoping to change that with a brand-new wellness center.

The Memphis Dream Center on North Highland opened nearly two weeks ago. It’s aim is to prevent illness by getting people healthy.

Services include nutrition, exercise and financial classes and chiropractic and holistic health care, and it is all free to those who qualify.

The MDC wellness center is also working with the Maximized Living Foundation and The Morning Center to provide free prenatal and maternity care.

“Not only prenatal care, but hospitalization and deliver at Baptist Women’s Hospital and a year’s worth of follow-up care all at no charge,” said Dr. Joe Carson with the Memphis Dream Center.

The Memphis Dream Center also provides free after-school tutoring to some Douglass Elementary students and provides food to nearly 4,000 people weekly.
