MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A historic Memphis high school honored a 1939 graduate who put his life on the line during World War II as part of the famed “Tuskegee Airmen.”

Tuskegee Airman Luke J. WeathersTuesday, Booker T.  Washington High School, dedicated a plaque to Lieutenant Colonel Luke J. Weathers, Junior.

His son said the plaque in the school lobby would remind students at the school of their rich history.

“Well, going back to the history of this school itself, there were a lot of great people who actually graduated from Booker T.  Washington, but having one of their own as a national hero, there were a lot of accolades given to him as a pilot as an African-American that were first.”

Luke J. Weathers, Jr.  was 90-years old when he died nearly four years ago.

He was buried with full honors at Arlington National Cemetery.
