MEMPHIS, Tenn. —  A local mother told police she came to pick up her son after he stayed the weekend with his father.

When they got home,  she found bruises up and down his back so bad she rushed him to the hospital.

“They would play with my little nieces down there,” saidTerry McNeil who said he used to see the little boy with his father regularly.

He was surprised to hear Richard Graham was arrested and taken to jail.

Graham was arrested Monday for abusing his baby back in May.

Today WREG stopped by Graham’s home on Pendleton but his family refused to talk.

At the home, several youngsters were hanging out on the front porch, and another walking in.

There were lots of signs that children were staying in the home.

McNeil was a father of 5 who said he understood kids needed to be disciplined, but said Graham took it too far.

“That don’t mean you put your hands on them to the point they have bruises. There’s a way to talk to kids and deal with them. My voice will scare my kids,” he said.

Neighbors said they hoped the child recovers from this and the father learned a lesson, before he lays his hands on another child.
