MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A local man was arrested after he doused a teddy bear with accelerant and threatened his ex-girlfriend’s family.

According to reports, Memphis Fire crews responded to a call in the 3400 block of Knight Road on June 23.

When they arrived, the fire was already out but the victim told them her former boyfriend, Marshay Frenard, had intentionally set the fire.

She said the two had separated that morning after he went through her cell phone and started accusing her of cheating.

After telling him to leave several times, Frenard grabbed a teddy bear owned by the victim’s child and cut it open.

Realizing the danger, the woman woke up her two sons to get them to safety.

As the suspect left the house, he threatened to burn down her home and catch her clothes on fire in the process.

Memphis Police arrested Frenard on Saturday and charged him with aggravated arson.
