(Memphis) The Red Cross teamed up with a local church with the hope of saving lives.

Members of Promise Land Church and volunteers with The Mid-South Chapter of the American Red Cross canvassed several Frayser neighborhoods Saturday morning.

They handed out smoke detectors and fire safety information; things Frayser residents say is needed in the community.

“I know we’ve been having a lot for fires going on and some people have not been making it out, so that’s a good thing because some people do need to know the safety of a fire,” said Celeste Jones.

The Memphis Fire Department was also on hand, helping to install the fire detectors inside homes.
