Man says he was at wrong address, beaten with pistol: MPD

CORRECTION: Memphis police originally reported that the victim was deceased after being shot. MPD later confirmed that the man survived and is in non-critical condition.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One person was pistol-whipped following a shooting in the Airport area, according to police.


Memphis Police say the shooting happened on Pearson Road near Marlene Street. Officers responded to the scene just before 9:30 p.m. Sunday. The found one man unresponsive and bleeding from his right eye.

A woman said she was on the phone with the victim during the time of the shooting, trying to get him to park at the correct address.

She said she later heard the victim say he was at the wrong house. Court documents said someone told the victim to pull off. The woman then told police she heard at least four gunshots. She then said she went outside to the victim’s car, told him to move over and parked the car at the correct address.

The victim told an investigator that he was not shot but instead beat with a pistol. He also told officers that one of the suspects took his shoes.

MPD obtained a search warrant and later found and arrested Emmanuel Meniru after he matched the given description.

After a search warrant, officers found crack cocaine, three guns, and the victim’s stolen shoes.

Emmanuel Meniru, 21, was charged with aggravated robbery.

Another man – Marvin Hilliard – was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact and multiple guns and drug charges.

Memphis Police say this is an ongoing investigation.
