MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A party at a short-term rental ended with an officer being run over by a stolen vehicle Wednesday night.
A little after 9 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance at an Airbnb in the 1100 block of Kyle Street. The owner of the home asked police to remove a large group of people because he did not approve of all of them being there.
Several neighbors we spoke to said the renters were hosting a party that started getting out of hand.
Records state that an officer was checking out a black Kia Stinger with duct tape on the license plate when a man got inside and started it up. The officer tried to stop him, but the driver took off, knocking him to the ground.
According to MPD, the officer stated over his radio that he had been run over.
A pursuit started and the vehicle eventually crashed into construction beams on E.H. Crump Boulevard, police say.
The suspect ran on foot before being detained. He allegedly had a black Glock 19 and a 9 mm loaded with one in the chamber and 18 in the magazine. Officers also found a vehicle programmer on the suspect.
The Kia was reported stolen.
Police say an officer crashed into the suspect’s vehicle during the chase, but there was no observable damage.
The officer was taken to Regional One in non-critical condition.
MPD also found a stolen 2021 Dodge Durango across the street from the residence.
