MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The City of Dyersburg reported 121 properties were damaged by flooding from severe weather earlier this month.

In a statement on Facebook, the City of Dyersburg said that preliminary flood damage assessments started on Monday, April 14, by their Codes staff, and they were completed on Wednesday, April 16.

“These were for those affected by the flood within the city limits of Dyersburg; a total of 121 properties were impacted by the flooding,” said the City of Dyersburg.

On April 8, over 40 homes were evacuated due to flooding in South Dyersburg from the “North Fork” of the Forked Deer River.

Rescue crews evacuated almost 50 people, and some were staying in a Red Cross shelter.

Businesses along South Main were also suffering after being closed in February by floods, ice, and snow.

The American Red Cross shelter in the First United Methodist Church is caring for many flood victims.

“Well, they’re all feeling pretty down right now and they feel hopeless, but that’s one reason we’re here because we can provide some hope and comfort for them,” said Deene Shaver, Supervisor of the American Red Cross Shelter in Dyersburg.
