MEMPHIS, Tenn.– A crash involving an 18-wheeler caused a major traffic backup on I-55 in Southaven Thursday afternoon.

One southbound lane of I-55 near Horn Lake Creek is currently blocked.

Southaven Police said the bridge guardrail was struck, a tractor trailer ran off the road and was leaking diesel fuel.

SFD was on the scene to contain the spill and called for a Hazmat cleanup crew.

Southaven Police closed the southbound lanes between Goodman Road and Church Road so that a wrecker can come in and move the tractor trailer.

As of 8:45 p.m., the accident has been cleared and both southbound lanes of I-55 are open to traffic.
