MEMPHIS, Tenn. — We’re learning more tonight about the young woman who died in a shooting in Hickory Hill early Tuesday morning.

Family members identify her as 19-year-old Aaliyah Kyles — a daughter, sister and friend — and they are desperate for answers about why this happened.

“We should have had more time,” said her mother Montina Kyles. “She was only 19. She hadn’t even started to live life.”

It was early Tuesday morning, around 2, when Memphis police responded to a shooting at an apartment on the 2900 block of Bald Eagle Road in Hickory Hill and found a woman dead at the scene.

“She was really loveable. Outspoken. She will just come in the room and light the room up. ‘Hey, how y’all doing? Y’all doing alright?’ She was just real cheerful, real happy-go-lucky,” he mother said.

Family members say Kyles just moved to that apartment in January.

“It’s been hard for us, real hard,” said her father Anthony Kyles. “Because they took someone that means so much to me. She was like the glue to our family. That was my everything.”

At this point, police have not made any arrests, but the family has their suspicions of who may be responsible. They’re asking anyone with information to please speak up.

“It would be the start of healing to know that who’s responsible, they have them in custody and don’t let them out,” Montina Kyles said.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Chick-Fil-A, where Kyles used to work.

And as always, anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
