MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A teenager is being accused of stabbing two children in Southwest Memphis on Monday, police say.

Police said a 14-year-old repeatedly stabbed two young boys at the Austin Park Rental Homes on Leclaire Lane off of Horn Lake Road.

Police responded to the scene around 10 p.m. where they located an 8-year-old boy suffering from a stab wound to his lower stomach with his organs exposed.

He was rushed to Le Bonheur in critical condition.

MPD stated the boy’s brother was also stabbed. He suffered wounds to the upper chest and arm.

A mother who lives nearby says her young son played with the kids hours before the stabbing. She says he told her there was some sort of altercation among the boys.

“It was a lot of not playing fair and all stuff. Bullying and terrible stuff,” she added.

According to police reports, the eight-year-old was outside playing with his brother when the 14-year-old chased after them with a knife.

It’s unclear why he chased after the boys.

Police located the 14-year-old suspect inside a residence across the street from where the incident took place.

He was later taken to juvenile court where he faces two counts of attempted first-degree murder.

Those who live in the Austin Park Rental Homes told WREG that gang-related activity is common among teens in the neighborhood.
