MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is charged with aggravated robbery after being accused of stealing four dollar bills and four quarters from a man overnight in the Bethel Grove area.
According to Memphis Police, on Sunday around 12:11 a.m., officers were flagged down at Hugenot Street and Arlington Avenue by a man who said he was just robbed.
The victim stated that the man who robbed him, later identified as 34-year-old Japhfus Alexander, was in front of him. The victim said he started following Alexander after the robbery.

Police say it all started when the victim was walking to the store and was approached by Alexander. Alexander allegedly told the victim “Give me everything you have, or I’m going to kill you”.
That is when he gave the suspect four one-dollar bills, four quarters, a pack of Seneca cigarettes, a black cell phone, and his black hat.
Alexander swung a metal pipe at the victim before walking away, police say.
The victim said he followed Alexander until he saw police and flagged them down.
MPD says they found the money, hat, and metal pipe on Alexander when they took him into custody. However, Alexander said he did not rob him and that he would show officers where his phone was.
