MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An arrest has been made after a man was accused of shooting at least four people at Railgarten in Midtown last Friday night.

Detawn Gunn, 30, is charged with five counts of criminal attempt second-degree murder, five counts of possession of a firearm/dangerous felony, and two counts of vandalism $1,000-2,500.

On August 16, Memphis Police officers say they responded to a shooting at Railgarten at 2166 Central Avenue where they found four victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

Corey Coleman is one of the shooting victims who say the shooting sparked from an argument over a parking spot.

Coleman says he and his family are from Dallas, Texas, and were in town for work. They went to Railgarten to enjoy a family night.

When Coleman’s son was parking in the parking spot that they had paid for, the suspect was trying to get in the same spot. He said when he tried to tell the suspect the spots were taken, the suspect got upset and threatened to kill him. Then someone yelled out that he [the suspect] had a gun.

Coleman says he was then shot several times and that everyone else who was shot was either an innocent bystander or trying to stop the suspect.

Police say the fifth victim, who was Coleman’s son, followed the suspect, who was driving a gray Lexus SC, to E. E.H. Crump Boulevard and S. Camilla Street. That is when the suspect allegedly fired a shot at the victim.

While on the scene, officers say two vehicles had been struck by “birdshot” rounds and the total cost of the damage was $2,000.

MPD camera in the area captured the suspect’s vehicle leaving the scene with Arkansas dealer tags. Investigators say the same tags had been used on multiple cars since the shooting but it was mostly used on a two-door dark-colored Lexus and a gray Acura sedan.

After further investigation, investigators say they discovered that a traffic citation was issued to a man identified as Detawn Gunn who was driving a gray Honda Accord with the same Arkansas tags on June 28.

On August 21, Violent Crime Unit Investigators interviewed Gunn and he admitted that he was a mechanic and swapped the tags between vehicles. However, he denied using the tags on the Lexus that was used in the shooting and says the tags were stolen between late May – early June.

The tags were captured on the Lexus and the Acura multiple times before the day of the shooting, investigators say, but they were seen last on the Lexus at 5:27 p.m. and 8:03 p.m. the day of the shooting.

Investigators then executed a search warrant on Gunn’s house where they say they found the vehicle paperwork and keys to the Lexus.

Detawn Gunn is now set to face a judge on Friday morning.
