MEMPHIS, Tenn.– An arrest has been made in the cold-case murder of Robert Wong, who was killed on Thanksgiving in 2017, Memphis police said Wednesday.
The district attorney’s office identified the suspect as 19-year-old Dallas Perkins, who is is serving a seven-year prison sentence for aggravated robbery. They said Perkins was 15 when Wong was killed in his Parkway Village home.
Police say a juvenile affidavit was submitted in Juvenile Court charging the suspect with first degree murder, first degree murder in perpetration of a theft $2,500 to $10,000, and theft of property.
Wong, who was being treated for cancer, was shot November 23, 2017 in the 4100 block of Cochese in Parkway Village.
The side doors were unlocked, keys were missing, and the family Honda Odyssey van was gone, DA Amy Weirich’s office said.
Police described the killing as a home invasion and robbery after Wong’s vehicle was stolen. The abandoned vehicle was found miles from his home the next day.
Perkins is serving a seven-year sentence in the Riverbend Maximum Security institution in Nashville after pleading guilty in 2019 to robbing a pizza delivery driver in Cordova a year before. He got away with the driver’s Dodge Charger, $20 and two pizzas, Weirich’s office said.
New evidence and witness interviews led cold-case detectives to Perkins’ involvement in the murder of Wong.
