Child found shot at McDonald’s on Poplar Avenue

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis police were on the scene of a shooting that left a child injured on Friday morning.

At 10:43 a.m., Memphis Police responded to the incident at McDonald’s on Poplar Avenue and Tillman Street. Police believe the shooting was connected to road rage and did not happen at the restaurant.

The child was taken to Le Bonheur in critical condition. Police said the child is now stable after being shot in the back.

Family members have identified the boy as 5-year-old Jeremy Knox. Memphis Police later confirmed the child’s age.

After the shooting, Memphis Police told WREG Jeremy’s father drove him to McDonald’s and met with the child’s mother. He was then taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Jeremy’s aunt, Alexis Andrews, said she tried to keep herself together as doctors at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital operated on her nephew.

“I was just trying to keep it together for my sister’s sake. I was just saying praises, we go pray, it’s okay,” Andrews said. “He’s great now, he doing good. It just bruised his lungs but saying he doing better.”

Police said the suspect is known by the victim’s family but is not yet in custody. Andrews hopes that changes soon.

“I just wanna say karma always comes back, that’s all. I don’t wish nothing bad anybody, but karma do it itself,” Andrews said.
