Collierville PD investigating reports of drink tampering at two restaurants

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Collierville Police Department is currently investigating four reports of potential drink tampering at two local restaurants.

Casa Mexicana and Frida’s have been identified as the restaurants under investigation by police and the Alcoholic Beverage Control.

Collierville Police say the establishments are fully cooperating and providing the police department with video surveillance to assist in the investigation.

A Cordova man claims his wife was dining at Casa Mexicana before she was found dead in a large retention pond last week.

Kristen Fundo’s husband said she was meeting a friend at the restaurant on Friday, and her bill shows she had two margaritas and food during the more than two-hour dinner.

Collierville police stated Saturday evening someone filed a report about “possibly someone drugging them” on the same night, and at the same restaurant, where Fundo and her friend were.

They wouldn’t give further details, nor would they say if it could be connected to Fundo’s fatal crash.

The manager of Casa Mexicana told WREG they were deeply sorry to hear the news. While he wasn’t aware of the possible drugging report, he did say they are working and cooperating with authorities.

As of now, police say no criminal incidents have been confirmed, but detectives are “carefully reviewing test results,” and continuing their investigation.

WREG spoke with a woman Friday who believes she may also have been a victim. The woman, who did not want to be identified, said she and a friend went to Casa Mexicana back in August, and noticed something seemed off with their drinks.

“We both ordered a small regular margarita. I think hers was raspberry, mine was strawberry, and after eating and having that one drink, we were absolutely belligerently intoxicated. From one small margarita, which is not typical,” she said.

She said she and her friend could barely walk. She thought there may have been too many alcohol shots in her drink, until she read recent posts from people in Collierville Facebook groups describing a similar experience.

“That’s when we were like, oh my gosh, that probably is exactly what happened that night,” she said.

The woman says she now plans to file a police report.
