MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Calls to oust the Shelby County Clerk Wanda Halbert ring louder with a major development in the case.

Last month, an attorney filed a petition to remove Halbert, citing “willful neglect to perform her duties”.

The county attorney’s office says Halbert did not answer their complaint within the proper time frame. Halbert was required by law to answer their complaint within 20 days, but they say she never did.

Instead, Halbert’s attorney has been fighting for her to keep her job, filing a motion for the case to be dismissed.

As a result, the county attorney’s office is calling for Halbert’s immediate removal as a default judgment.

Both sides are expected in court for a hearing on the matter on September 13.
