MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy hosted a press conference on Thursday, announcing some changes in how his office interacts with the public.
He also addresses rampant business burglaries that are frustrating business owners in the city.
Mulroy says these are coordinated group efforts. In the past, his staff might’ve missed how some burglaries were connected. But that will change, with the goal of building a stronger case..
“We’re going to make sure we route all those cases to centralized prosecutors, people who are going to develop expertise on who the repeat players are,” Mulroy said.
It’s one of several new initiatives the district attorney announced. Another includes a new partnership with Memphis Police Department for intervention with shoplifting suspects
And Mulroy said victims and witnesses at 201 Poplar will; receive amenities like lunch vouchers, free garage parking, light snacks, water and therapy dogs. Occasionally, Subway gift cards for lunch will be provided.
He says funding for the new amenities came from the office’s existing budget and a new deal with the Downtown Memphis Commission.
Mulroy also says he will host a press conference at least once a month, addressing initiatives within the DA office. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 25.
