MEMPHIS, Tenn. — More than a dozen of car break-ins were reported at a Downtown Memphis hotel Monday morning.
It happened at the Sheraton Memphis hotel on 250 Main Street.
Security was allegedly on the lot when the break-ins occurred.
One hotel guest said he paid for valet parking but his car was still broken into.
“Where were you,” Jeremy Sterling said. “Where were the valet guys? Where were the staff at? How in the world could 14 to 15 vehicles get broken into on your lot when this is a valet parking?”
Sterling as not the only frustrated guest.
“We paid $30 for the valet,” Julie Condy said. “We really thought that we were in good hands.”
Thieves are getting more and more creative when it comes to finding ways to break into your vehicle. Memphis police say one way they are doing it is by using their cell phones. Police say it doesn’t matter how dark the tint is on your window. If a thief has their phone in camera mode, all they have to do is put it up to the window and they can see straight inside.
They also encourage drivers to not leave anything inside vehicles and to keep their doors locked at all times.
“It doesn’t make me want to come and stay here anymore,” Condy said.
It is currently unknown if Memphis police have a suspect.
WREG reached out to Marriott, the hotel’s parent company, but have not heard back.
