Dangerous heat expected this week in Memphis area

UPDATE: A Heat Advisory has been issued for most of the Mid-South until 1 a.m. Friday.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An early-season heatwave will be present this week as Memphis and surrounding areas experience high temperatures.

High humidity and temperatures will reach near 98 degrees which will send the heat index to 105 – 110 this week.

Dry weather is anticipated in the extended forecast, with only small rain chances. A heat advisory will likely be needed each day.

An Excessive Heat Warning was placed in effect for the entire Mid-South on Monday, with an heat index as high as 111.

The heat and humidity combination for this week can result in dangerous conditions if not prepared.

We’re hoping dewpoints/humidity will begin to drop by the weekend and the lower 90s will not seem so unbearable.

By Friday night, a weak cold front will move into the MidSouth.

We may not see much by way of rain but there should be cooler and drier air behind the front, which means some relief from extreme heat Saturday and Sunday.

Please hydrate, always check the back seat for children or pets, wear lightweight light colored clothing, and take frequent breaks during the day limiting strenuous outdoor activity.
