MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police responded to a wreck early Friday morning in the Nutbush area after a driver lost control and crashed into a home, causing significant damage.
At around 2:30 a.m., a speeding car went flying into a house on National near Macon.
One fatality was reported on the scene. It missed the man and woman inside the house and only narrowly avoided Joe Moore and his daughter, who were walking home from the corner store.
“Another 15, 20 seconds, we would have been right in the path of the car,” Moore said.
Moore says the Infiniti came barreling through this intersection and quickly lost control.
“He had to have been doing 100 plus,” Moore said. “Right there where Macon crossed over National, it kind of humps and when he hit it, it just come right on up.”
After first hopping a curb, the car ploughed through concrete barriers then continued its path through the yard, where it hit a car before slamming right into the house. The driver was ejected from the car and landed about 20 feet away.
The driver of the vehicle was the only one injured. Police say he later died at the hospital.
Torris Johnson says practically every night he comes out to smoke and screeching tires. Cars speed and do dangerous stunts, causing collisions left and right.
“My sister got hit, my son got hit out here. Some friends of ours got hit up the street,” Johnson said.
Police have not officially identified the driver, but a cousin says he went by the name “Big Mike.”
