MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A fire broke out at a South Memphis business Friday morning, according to the Memphis Fire Department.

The MFD responded to a structure fire call at 565 South Parkway East, Crown Entertainment and Banquet. They say no one was injured in the fire.

An official cause for the fire has not been released, but some community members we spoke to believe this incident was no accident.

“We had a ball in there last night. I didn’t even have clothes on. I had my scrubs on from work. We left at 2 o’clock. Now, here it is at 5 o’clock and my club has burned down. Who did it?” said one woman.

People in the community say that this event center was one of the few places they could go to enjoy themselves. They’re hoping the owners will rebuild despite the loss.

“I’m hoping that he can rebuild because he’s a good guy. You know, I’m hoping whoever did this, if it wasn’t an accident, I hope they catch them,” said Kevin Woodson.

For the community, it was more than event space, it was a safe haven full of memorable experiences.

“I’ve been knowing the owner here for years. Me and my friend said we were going to have our wedding reception here. You know, so this is great love for the community, because, like I said, you going to enjoy yourself, was never no problems,” Woodson said.
