MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Former state Sen. Brian Kelsey is now in federal prison after pleading guilty to campaign violations in 2022.

The Germantown Republican was indicted on five counts of campaign violations relating to his 2016 run for the U.S. House of Representatives. Kelsey pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud the FEC and aiding and abetting the acceptance of excessive contributions.

He was sentenced to 21 months in federal prison.

Earlier this month, a federal judge denied Kelsey’s motion to stay out of prison while the court considered a request to vacate his sentence.

Kelsey, 47, is listed as an inmate at FCI Ashland in Ashland, Kentucky.
