MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An inmate died after having a hard time breathing at the Shelby County Jail in downtown Memphis.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says Antonio Golden, 27, was taken to jail medical on Monday around 5:45 a.m. by corrections personnel.

Golden was then taken to Methodist University Hospital by Memphis Fire Department, where he was pronounced dead hours later.

Golden was charged with aggravated arson after a fire at a Frayser apartment complex that displaced at least eight residents.

This is still an ongoing investigation.
