MEMPHIS, Tenn.–Four months after a South Memphis man was shot in the head while he was cooking in his kitchen, his stepson has been arrested for attempted second-degree murder.
Police said a warrant was issued for Deandre Campbell, 29, back in November. He was taken into custody on Wednesday.
The shooting happened on November 22 in the 200 block of Adolphus Avenue.
When officers got there, they found Devonta Flowers on the kitchen floor with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Campbell’s mother told police her son and husband had been arguing for months, and Flowers told Campbell he was going to kill him.
She told investigators she saw her son and his girlfriend come downstairs and go into the kitchen where her husband was cooking and moments later heard a gunshot and her son’s girlfriend say, “What did you do that for?”
Campbell’s mother said she went into the kitchen and saw her husband on the floor and Campbell running out the door.
She told officers her son did own a gun, and she believed he had it on him at the time of the shooting.
Court records show Campbell was charged with domestic assault in 2016 but was never prosecuted.
He is being held in the Shelby County Jail without bond and is scheduled to go before a judge on Thursday.
