MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police responded to a shooting at I-40 and Austin Peay around 5:30 Thursday evening.

A male victim was located and taken to Regional Medical Center in critical condition. We saw a smashed truck and another wrecked car in a ditch but investigators haven’t said which vehicle the wounded man was in.

There’s no suspect information. Traffic was backed up on I-40 eastbound for some time.

This is at least the 95th highway shooting in Memphis this year, which surpasses last year’s total of 80.

Marlen Jones says she’s careful on the highway because of how many shootings there have been.

“I’m cautious,” she said. “Hey, let me get out the way because you never know the intentions of somebody else.”

This is an ongoing investigation.
